Wanchos celebrate

ITANAGAR, Sept 29: On hearing the news of declaration of new Longding District, the people of entire Wancho Community are filled with joy and enthusiasm and celebrated the declaration of new District at ADC HQ Longding and other Administrative HQs under Longding Sub-Division on 26th and 27th September. People from all corners of the area turned up and shared the happiness. While celebrating the declaration, the people of the Wancho Community and inhabitants have conveyed thanks to the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh on the remarkable contribution of Late Chief Minister Dorjee Khandu and leaders of the state and the community for the creation of the new district.

 

School meet

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: A meeting of School Management Committee and Teaching Community of Govt. School Karsingsa was held on Sept 28. The meeting took up the issue of shortages in fund, teacher’s quarters, class rooms and provision of drinking Water among others.

 

‘Clamp 144 at Mowb-II, Niti Vihar’

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: All Nyishi Youth Organization (ANYO), in a memorandum, has urged the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh to impose 144 CrPC at Mow-II, Niti Vihar, VVIP and VIPs areas and vacate the Chief Minister’s Bungalow  immediately.

The CM Bungalow, which has been lying vacant since the death of former chief minister Dorjee Khandu, has now become a camp of anti-social elements allegedly being nurtured by the present CM, the memorandum read.

ITANAGAR, Sep 29:  District Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJP), East Kameng unit has condoled the death of Hindu Dolo, Bameng Mandal unit president, who died on September 26 last.

BJP Yuva Morcha described his death as great loss to the party and his family in particular.

Mumbai students meet

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: The Arunachal Students Union of Mumbai (ASUM) conducted its 11th fresher’s meet cum yearly get together last Saturday. Every year ASUM conducts the event for interaction between the fresher’s and the seniors studying and working in and around Mumbai.

Aina Taloh and Neba Salo were adjudged as Miss and Mr. freshers respectively.

The evening also saw the appointment of new executive members for the tenure 2011-2012. Rame Mara, Sukanti Mihu and Taamwang Lowang were appointed as President, Vice president and General Secretary respectively.

 

District group D staff meeting held

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: All Kurung Kumey District Group D Staff Welfare Association conducted meeting at Palin recently.

During the meeting the, the house discussed about various benefits given by the government, promotional avenue of group D staff and also adopted several resolutions and also unanimously decided to appeal the government to look into their grievances.

 

Union concern at law & order situation

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Expressing concern over the reported murder and kidnapping incidents in the state, Arunachal Pradesh Indigenous Tribes Union blamed the State Govt and home minister for alleged failure to control the law and order situation. The union also demanded that the CM should come out with details information about the present law and order situation. Accusing the CM of misleading the present youth force, the union further said people are living in fear psychosis. It urged the chief minister to take the responsibility for present  law and order situation.

 

IDSP training concludes

BOMDILA, Sep 29 : The Integrated Disease Surveillance Project, which is a decentralized disease surveillance project in the country, was initiated by the central government way back in year 2004 with financial support from the World Bank. The programme was launched in the state two years later in 2006-07 with a motive to generate and detect early warning signals of impending outbreaks of potential epidemic diseases.

For the smooth functioning of the IDSP works and as a re-orientation programme in the district, a total of 109 Health Workers were trained including 26 Medical Officers in four batches at District Hospital Bomdila. The training focused on the skills to detect early outbreaks and its control. Disease Surveillance Officer Dr. M.Maiti, SMO Dr.D.K Lama and Epidemiologist Sange N Thungon attended the training as resource persons. Earlier, the training programme was inaugurated by DMO Dr.D.Duri. (DIPRO)

 

ABK mourn Mize’s demise

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Adi Baane Kebang has deeply mourned the sudden demise of Late Tatan Mize, veteran social worker and  Ex-Interim President of Adi Baane Kebang yesterday at Dibrugarh.  All members of ABK observed two minutes silence at  ABK’s office  at Itanagar yesterday and prayed for his eternal peace at the abode of  God and condoled his  bereaved  family.

Late Mize was a veteran social worker and spokesman of the Adi Community and  father of popular Adi singer Talut Mize.  Immense contribution of Late Mize towards Adi society and particularly ABK will always be    revered and will remember  him as  one of  its  good leader and  Samaritan, ABK said in a release. Jering Matkir Society, Itanagar condoled the demise of Tatan Mize who died on September 27 at Dibrugarh.

The society extended its condolence message to the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed soul.

 

Orgs denounce press statement

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Arunachal Pradesh Elite Youth Organization has denounced the press statement by Nyishi Federal Council which appeared in various daily today in which NFC had sought intervention of UPA chairperson for appointment of new chief minister for Arunachal. Organization slammed NFC stating that no organization has right to suggest chief minister for a state and in regards to Arunachal already present CM Jarbom Gamlin has been appointed by Congress party with support of 42 MLAs.

The organization further claim that law and order problem is deteriorating because of the long absence of MLAs from their respective assembly constituencies. They urged chief minister to direct all the absentee MLAs and parliamentary secretaries to come back and work for the welfare of citizen.

 

SECC workshop held in Khonsa

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: A district level workshop-cum training on socio-economic and caste census was held at DC’s conference hall, Khonsa today. Tirap DC, W. Lowang who is also the principal SECC officer, asked the BDOs who are charge officer’s, to plan well- in advance to manage the daunting exercise efficiently. He told the participants that SECC was time bound and paperless. Lowang asked the BDOs to identify the computer literate persons in their respective circles as their help may be required. He further said that though Bharat Electronic Ltd. Company from Kerala will extend all logistic supports, more computer experts might be required.

AK Mishra, Lecturer, DRC and AN Sah also Lecturer, DRC spoke at length on various facets of SECC and urged the BDOs to carry out the whole exercise without any error and complete the work within time-bound specified by authorities.

They also threw light on use of tablet PC and data entry operation system. Other matters and methodologies vis-à-vis smooth conduct of SECC were discussed threadbare during the workshop.  

 

Union seeks CS interference

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: The Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe Students' Union (APSTSU) strongly urged the state Chief Secretary for his immediate interference in regards to collection of fees for ST and PRC certificate by government officers as per their own desire and not complying government fixed fees. Citing example of Seijosa, where officers are charging Rs.150/- for ST, Rs. 100/- for PRC, the union observed that it is total violation of the govt. norms which has been decided on 19th Sept. 2006 by the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh vide notification No. DAD-18/2006, Dtd. 19th Sept.2006.

As per the govt. notification the cost of ST is Rs. 10/-, PRC Rs.10/- only. Union appealed Chief Secretary for his urgent interference in this case and punish those officers who are openly encouraging corrupt practice in the state. They further asked state government to serve notice in all District Headquarters and block level for mass awareness regarding the fees structure of ST/PRC. The APSTSU expressed dissatisfaction with the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh and regarding their submission of memorandum in regards to the 30% reservations in NE-1-NE-11, NE-III in North East Regional Institute of Science & Tech¬nology (NERIST). Despite assurance given from Chief Minister, Education Minister, Finance Minister of State to pursue the matter with the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) but no discussion was made in last Assembly Session which is not in the interest of student’s community of the state.

The union also appeal the Govt. of Arunachal Pradesh and all the political parties specially Home Minister to provide security to each and every citizens of peace loving citizen of state. They also expressed deep concern over growing number of cases like murder, extortion, kidnapping within the capital complex and state as a whole which is shameful.

 

Memo to DC

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: All Leporiang Youth Welfare Association (ALYWA) has submitted a memorandum to Papum Pare deputy commissioner demanding immediate redressal of its various grievances, especially problems faced by the students due to insufficient posting of teachers in various schools under Leporiang circle.

The lone Govt Secondary School and all the four Govt middle Schools under Leporiang circles are running without sufficient teachers, the association said in its memorandum and urged the DC to initiate prompt action to post teachers in those schools.

It demanded immediate posting of 3 senior 5 junior teachers at Leporiang Secondary school, 3 junior and 5 assistant teachers in each govt middle school, inspection of those schools by DDSE or CO, holding payment of absentee teachers among others.

 

Cable theft

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Cable theft has become a big problem for the communication network in Capital Complex.

Approximately 35 meters (200 pair) of  copper cable were stolen by thieves on the night of September 23 last from RCC bridge at Nirjuli, causing disruption to atleast 300 landline telephones at ‘P’, ‘D’ sectors and Veterinary Colony, Nirjuli, BSNL authority said in a release.

In another incident on September 27, 400 pairs (47 mt) of copper cable was stolen from three locations between NRL petrol pump and Niba Clinic by thieves which has affected thousands of landline users in Papu Nallah area, the release said. FIRs have been lodged for both the cases with Naharlagun Police station for immediate action against the miscreants as well as buyers of the stolen cables, the release said.

Restoration work was going on in full swing, the release added.

 

ZVPF demand

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Ziro Valley People’s Forum (ZVPF) has supported the demand made by some organizations to hand back the NH-52A over to BRTF from APPWD for proper maintenance of the all important road.

There has been a public outcry over the deplorable condition of the road and its poor maintenance by APPWD, the Forum said in a letter to Chief Minister and urged him to hand back the road over to BRTF within 7 days.

 

AAPYF calls capital bandh

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: All Arunachal Pradesh Youth Forum (AAPYF) in its executive meeting held at Naharlagun today unanimously decided to go for its 2nd phase 24 hours Capital bandh on Oct 1 in protest against alleged failure of the Govt to pay heed to its five points demand which include removal of minister Atum Welly and CIC Y D Thongchi for their alleged involvement in illegal appointments.

It had observed 12-hour Capital Complex bandh earlier on July 14 along with Arunachal RTI Activist Forum (ARTIAF) on the same issue, the Forum claimed.  

However, vehicles of magistrate and police personnel on duty, ambulance, milk van and media persons are exempted from the purview of bandh, the release said.

Meanwhile, All Papum Pare District Volunteer Youth Forum extended its support to the 24 hrs capital bandh of the AAPYF.

 

Patients’ regn fee

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: All Arunachal Registered Contractor Association (AARCA) Upper Subansiri District unit has alleged collection of money @ Rs.5 from each patient as registration fee at District Hospital Daporijo by the hospital authority and appealed to the Upper Subansiri deputy commissioner to do the needful to relax it.

A team of AARCA Upper Subansiri unit led by its president Dos Dasi also called on the DC to discuss the matter with him. According to the AARCA district unit president, the DC has assured him to depute a team to inquire the matter immediately. He also met DMO Dr. Dubom Bagra and urged him to relax patients’ registration fee.

This kind of fee collection is an indirect extortion from poor people by the authority, the AARCA district unit president said. He also demanded the hospital authority to explain the reason of collecting registration fee questioning whether such provision exists in the hospital.

 

Union seeks action  

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: All Tai Khampti Singpho Students Union (ATKSSU ) has sought  immediate and quick action against the culprit involved in the alleged rape and murder of a school girl in Vijayanagar.

It also demanded immediate action against those erring officials, the Circle Officer, Medical in-charge and the Police Officer in-charge for being irresponsible to their respective duties.

It further sought station of Government Officials at their respective duties regularly.

 

Wildlife Week

ITANAGAR: The 57th Wildlife Week 2011 would be celebrated with Mahatma Gandhi’s concept of non violence here on October 2 to create awareness among masses of the need to conserve wildlife, according a release issued by deputy chief wildlife warden, Naharlagun.

A “Walk for Wildlife” would be taken out from Akashdeep complex to IG Park on the day.

Various programmes, such as essay writing, painting and drawing competitions among school children and mass awareness campaign on wild life conservation are also being organized at different villages with the help of school authority of the capital complex and respective panchayat leaders, the release said.

The Biological Park (Zoo), Itanagar would be kept open and free for the visitors on October 3 from 9 am to 4 pm as part of the week-long celebration, the release added.

 

Best Citizen of India award to RGU teacher

ITANAGAR: Dr Kesang Degi has been conferred for the "Best Citizens of India award 2011" by the International Publishing House New Delhi, the world’s most leading biographical specialist.

This award has been conferred for her research work and contribution on Tribal women’s education.

The other recipients of this award are former Election Commissioner G.V.G Krishnamurhty, Air Marshal N.C. Suri, Speaker Rajasthan Sumitra Singh among others.

Dr. Kesang Degi is presently working as Assistant Professor in the Department of Education, Rajiv Gandhi University, Doimukh, Itanagar. She is one of the first Ph.D holders from Tawang District.

Governor seeks report on law and order situation from the Govt

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: The Governor of Arunachal Gen J J Singh expressed his concern over some of the recent incidents in the Capital Complex and other parts of the State and asked the Home Minister to take strict steps to bring the guilty to book and restore the faith of the people in administration.

He said this when a ministerial delegation including Home Minister Takar Marde, Minister Industries & Fisheries Tako Dabi, Minister, Power, Environment & Forests Setong Sena, Minister, Health & RWD Atum Welly, Minister, WRD & Tourism Pema Khandu, and Minister, Agri & Horti Honchun Ngandam, called on the Governor at Raj Bhavan today to update him on the various development projects and other people friendly initiatives of the State Government.

During the discussions the Home Minister Takar Marde briefed the Governor on the latest law and order scenario in the State and the steps being taken by the State Police for maintenance of peace and public order.

He also asked the Home Minister to submit a detailed report to him on the law and order scenario in the State and the steps being proposed by the State Government to check any deterioration in the same and enhanced the confidence amongst the citizen.

Minister Industries & Fisheries, Tako Dabi, briefed on the various steps being taken for development of fisheries and tea cultivation sectors in the State for promotion of rural livelihoods. He emphasized on a collective development plan for the State involving agriculture and allied departments, water resource department, Forests and Fisheries etc for the meaningful and planned development of the State.

Setong Sena briefly highlighted the improvement in the implementation of RGGVY scheme in the State and informed that improvement of transmission and distribution network has been taken up as a priority area by power department. Sena, who also holds the charge of Parliamentary Affairs emphasized on the need for regular training and orientation programmes for the members of the State Assembly.

Participating in the discussion, the Health & Family Welfare Minister Atum Welly highlighted the issue of shortage of General and Specialist Doctors in the State and informed that the department has initiated a proposal for creating these much required posts. He also shared the road map for opening up the first Medical College in the State.  Responding to the Governor’s query on the present status of Institute of Hotel Management and opening of Arunachal Tourism Counter at Guwahati Airport the State Tourism Minister Pema Khandu stated that the projects will be completed as soon as possible. He also informed that the department has formulated a shelf of projects in the Tourism sector for submission to the Union Ministry of Tourism for approval.

While terming the twin sectors of Agriculture and Horticulture as potential engines of growth of the State Honchun Ngandam highlighted the need for introducing the minimum support price for horticulture crops and also for taking up Honey production and Floriculture activities.

The Governor asked all the Ministers to formulate people centric policies which should generate sufficient employment opportunities for the youth in rural areas.

 

Kebang says no to public hearing

2700 MW Lower Siang Dam

ITANAGAR, Sep 29:  The 3 days Bogum Bokang Kebang, the Apex Assembly of Adis held from Sept 26 at Riew Village has out rightly rejected the coming up of the 2700 MW Lower Siang Dam.

The meeting has called for cancelation of public hearing for the project fixed on the Oct 18th , 19th and 21st . It said that not an inch of land will be allowed to be submerged because of the project.

Adi Baane Kebang, the apex body of the Adis also came in for criticism. The stringent decision was taken because in spite of 19 meetings on the Dam issue, ABK has shown it's biasness towards a  Corporate House instead of the interests of the Adi people, the resolution read. There was representation from 12 Adi Banggos to be affected by the Lower Siang Dam in the meeting.

Those who attended the meeting took a pledge to even give up their lives, when needed “if there are any plans and designs to oppress the people and drive them away from their Land and Forests”.

It was further decided that no meeting demanding compensation for lands on both banks of Siang River shall ever be entertained in any Banggos or villages of Adi belt henceforth.

The Kebang unanimously selected Tadam Taki as the President and Tasong Mibang as General Secretary of the Protem Executive Committee members of Bogum-Bokang Kebang.

The Next Bogum Bokang Kebang shall be held at Pessing village under West Siang.

 

Food waste a cause of concern: Baliga

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Country is witnessing a 40% loss of fresh produce of fruits and vegetables due to improper harvesting, lack of storage facility, mishandling, transit loss, unsuitable and unscientific packaging.

This was informed by the Additional Director, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) Dr. Jyoti Baliga at a press conference held at Press Club here this evening.

She expressed her disappointment over the wastage of foods and other commodities due to lack of proper management.

India has been known as the Food Factory to the world. Besides agriculture, India is showing a tremendous growth in the last few decades in terms of production of food grains, fruits, vegetables and cash crop, she said. She further terming the North Eastern states as one of the potential states in fruits production and need for improvement in terms of packaging and storage system said “Indian domestic food market is expected to grow by nearly 40% of the current market size by 2015, to touch USD258 billion by 2015 and added that the Indian overall food consumption market is forecast to climb from USD155 billion in 2005 to USD344 billion in 2025 - with compound growth at 4.1%. The Growing incomes, falling poverty, changing lifestyles and companies racing to capture India's middle and upper middle class consumers will cause the food market to evolve dramatically in the coming years”.

Baliga further highlighting the objectives of All India Workshop on the Packaging of Processed Fruits which will be held at Banquet Hall Itanagar on September 30, informed that the main objective of this workshop is to disseminate information about the trends and technology in the packaging of processed fruits, create awareness about the importance of packaging and also to promote the export market with the use of innovative packaging design, development and standardization among the entrepreneurs of Arunachal Pradesh.

Meanwhile, she informed that, Indian Institute of Packaging (IIP) is an autonomous and apex body working under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India for the promotion of packaging standards in the country. The Institute set up in 1966 is dedicated to serving the nation and industry to achieve excellence in packaging through its diversified activities that encompass the entire spectrum of packaging. With its headquarters and the principal laboratories in Mumbai, and other regional offices and laboratories in Kolkata, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad, the activities of the institute are in line with those of the world's premiere packaging Institutes. The institute's activities include Training & Education, Organizing Seminars, Conferences & Exhibitions, Awards, Consultancy & Projects, Laboratory Testing, Quality Evaluation of packaging material and packages, Information & Publication. The Institute is also closely linked with major International packaging organizations world over like the World packaging Organization (WPO), Asian Packaging Federation (APF), International Trade Centre (ITC), Geneva and has been working for the overall growth and development of packaging globally.

North Eastern Regional Agriculture Marketing Corporation, (NERAMAC) Zonal Manager, IH Saikia also briefed about the activities of the corporation and highlighted various problems faced by the fruits and crops growers of the state and added that lack of cold storage facility in the state is also a major problem for the fruits growers. He suggested the concerned department for setting up of cold storage unit in appropriate location for the benefits of people.

He further informed that the organic certification of crops for Arunachal Pradesh is under process. Normally, such certification process takes three years. But once the certification is cleared it will immensely increase the demand of the product, he added.

Trade and Commerce Director Tokong Pertin, Deputy Director IIP Kolkota,  Bidhan Das and also attended the press conference and urged the entrepreneurs to attend the workshop which would be attended by Industry and Fishery Minister Tako Dabi as Chief Guest, Parliamentary Secretary Trade & Commerce Nabam Rebia as guest of honour along with Commissioner of Trade & Commerce Makbul Pertin, and Commissioner Horticulture Hage Kojeen as special guest.

Earlier, Fisheries & Industries Minister Tako Dabi along with Dr. Jyoti  Baliga and Vidahan Das visited State Emporium.

Terming the entire state of Arunachal Pradesh naturally rich state Dabi advised the youths to change their mindset for economic development and engage their caliber for a constructive and dignified role in the society. He strongly advised the youth to go for self employment in small scale industries rather than seeking for government employment which is very limited.

He also urged the people particularly the youth to attain workshop on packaging of processed fruits at Banquet hall.

 

Tour operators question selection of delegates

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Arunachal Pradesh Tour Operator’s Association has opposed the delegation selected by state government to represent state at World Tourism Mart-2011 to be held at London. In a release association alleged that favouritism has been shown while selecting delegation members and genuine person with knowledge of tourism has been ignored.

Citing example of one delegation member Amjad Tak, the controversial West Siang deputy commissioner who was in news recently for all wrong reasons, association questioned, “What will Amjad Tak do at tourism promotion event. Does he have any knowledge of tourism and what has he done for promotion of tourism in Arunachal.”? The association urged tourism secretary to consult and get confidence of the local registered tour operators before finalizing the team. The association stated that preference should be given to young tour operators for greater exposure in national and international tourism fair and festivals.

 

Claims and counter claims within the govt over “abduction”

ITANAGAR, Sep 29:  A day after PHED Minister Chawna Mein’s statement that he was indeed kidnapped while he was on a walk and taken to CM official bungalow on Sept 26, the Government Spokesman Setong Sena said that the govt is pained to go through the news item published in local papers.

“The Government has not been made aware of any such incident by the  Minister. However, on the claim of Minister through news print, the government has ordered for a detail probe over the incident and also to the motive of such claim and appropriate steps to be initiated against those found guilty, the Govt. Spokesman informed.

The government further felt that the minister should have filed a FIR to the police so that prompt action could have been initiated well in time.

Speaking to a local daily, Mein said that he was, in fact, abducted on September 26 last.

He had dismissed the government clarification and said that he was in Niti Vihar area, returning after his evening walk around 5 pm, when three Scorpios appeared and a group of 5/6 people forcefully dragged him inside one of the vehicles.

“When I was taken out of the vehicle forcefully I demanded to meet Chief Minister Jarbom Gamlin,” Mein said.

On meeting the CM, Mein said, he “vehemently protested the way I was abducted despite being a senior minister,” and that the duo then “held a lengthy discussion on the political situation.”

“The CM expressed ignorance about the abduction and escorted me in his vehicle and dropped me at my bungalow nearby,” Mein said. Meanwhile, the Lohit District Congress Committee, Block Congress Committee of Namsai, Lekang and Chongkham and Panchayat Leaders and All Namsai Area Youth Association have strongly condemned the “abduction and abuse” of the minister.

At the same time, it questioned the manner adopted by the Govt. spokesman in rubbishing the claims of abduction. The language and manner  of Govt spokesperson Setong Sena can at best be called juvenile and at worst can be taken as ignorant.  This shows the lawlessness prevailing in the capital of our state, it added.

 

PR leaders seeks AICC intervention

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Arunachal Pradesh Panchayati Raj Co-ordination Committee has sought intervention of All India Congress Committee (AICC) to bail the state out from the prevailing state of lawlessness and for installation of a stable state Government.

Pointing out the reported kidnapping incident of a minister near CM Bungalow on Sept 26, the Committee in a memorandum addressed to the AICC president Sonia Gandhi alleged that CM bungalow has been used as a place of illegal confinement and harbouring criminals. State has been witnessing widespread bandh calls and manifold criminal activities since the new CM took the charge to lead the state, the Committee said while giving the example of criminal activities such as assault on Aalo DC, physical attack on Everester Tapi Mra, kidnapping, murder and frequent bandh calls in various parts of the state including state Capital.

The memorandum further said that state witness no development works and general public are agitating for want of development and all the central sponsored scheme under panchayat subjects are being superseded by the CM.

Alleging that crores of flood damage relief fund has been siphoned off, the Committee further appealed the AICC to issue directive to concern authorities for investigating the fund embezzlement.

 

Direct them to come back home: Forum

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Blaming the group of ministers and parliamentary secretaries who are reportedly camping in the New Delhi for the present chaos and internal fighting within the Congress in the state, Arunachal Pradesh Citizen Justice Forum (APCJF) has appealed the senior Congress leaders including AICC president to immediately direct the Congress leaders to  stay in state and concentrate on development.

The Forum further requested the Chief Minister to drop all those ministers and parliamentary secretaries who are “enjoying their holidays in New Delhi for the last three months and not interested to serve the  people of state”. “The people and its development have been deliberately hijacked by those leaders who are presently camping in New Delhi,” the Forum said while adding that dissidence within the Govt and allegation to own Govt is a matter of shameful act. “Instead of camping in New Delhi, the Congress leaders should stay in state and decide their leadership,” it further added.

Expressing shock and surprise over the reported kidnapping of a minister, the Forum also questioned why the minister did not lodge any complaint to police station so far, if he was really kidnapped.

Regarding law and order situation in the state, the Forum said  Home Minister has proved  his capability by effectively tackling the law and order. His visit to Tirap and Changlang and other parts of the state proved his sincerity in tackling law and order situation, the Forum said and   added that present law and order situation is a politically sponsored game by some senior most Congress leaders.

Forum   requested the ministers, parliamentary secretaries and MLAs to think about the common people who are suffering due to infighting within the Govt.

 

Go an extra mile to compensate the land owners: PAF

1750 MW Lower Dewme Hydro Electric Project

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: In a letter to the ADC cum Chairman of the Land rate fixation committee, regarding Fixation of rates for land and other assets for 1750 MW Lower Dewme Hydro Electric Project, the project-affected families said that the acquisition of the land for the said project would entail the dispossession of traditional land and forest around which people have built their culture, identity, social and economic systems, while adding that it expect that the prospective land losers should be compensated adequately. We plead with the authorities to introspect and go an extra mile to compensate the land owners, it said.

Rejecting the land rates quoted in the APRRP-2008 as absurd, the families said that they expect adequate compensation at par with that of other states of north-east.

If it’s imperative to exploit our perennial rivers to produce cheap, plentiful power for the nation, the welfare state needs to ensure that, the rights and benefits of the PAFs are not infringed upon. Growth without equity would eventually lead to conflicts, which can impede the smooth implantation of the project, they said.

It said that the demands made by the PAFs in the memorandum dated 21st July 2011 submitted to D.C Lohit, should be considered and fulfilled, issues raised during the Gram Sabha meeting of Tyluliang should be considered and fulfilled.

There should be substantial representation of the PAFs members in the R & R committee for implantation of the LADP and that the PAFs shall be entitled to get profitable shares from the project post production apart from the compensation. We expect that the community rights claimed over the forest land during the FRA meetings would enable those PAFs, whose lands were earlier shown as reserve forest would get compensation at par with then of other community forest land, it said.

It proposed  that Community jhum land be fixed at Rs. 35,00,000.00 per hectare + 30% solatiuam, 2nd category Rs. 30,00,000.00 per hectare + 30% solatiuam, Community forest land Rs. 25,00,000.00 per hectare + 25% NPV, 2nd category Rs. 20,00,000.00 per hectare + 25% NPV, Cost of crops in hilly area Rs. 5,00,000.00 and Cost of crops in plain area Rs. 10,00,000.00.

 

In Nampong, young ones prepare to join state police

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Come to Nampong in Changlang district and you will see the euphoric young generation busy building their physique for getting themselves recruited in civil police and other forces.  This is the impact of announcement made by Home Minister Takar Marde during his visit to both Tirap and Changlang districts recently. During his visit, Home Minister had informed that 1,480 posts of civil police is being created, exclusively for Changlang and Tirap district to absorb eligible local youths.

The recruitment to be conducted shortly in various categories of posts, including Sub-Inspectors, Constables, Head Constables in Telecommunication, Driver, Cook, Sweeper, Water Carrier, Cobbler out of which 140 posts are kept for ladies. While 74 post to be filled on companionate ground 96 post are for re-employment of ex-servicemen and 43 posts for sportsman. He further asked the youths to come forward and prepare themselves for screening and physical fitness test.

Since the announcement of job package by the HM, the youth of both Tirap and Changlang, particularly the students  of  Nampong Govt Higher Secondary School, Changlang come out to the street exactly at 4 am every morning for a walk to make them fit for security job, informed the school principal in a statement.  While the boys are running in group to keep their body flexible, the girls too are not far behind as they are determined to get into the service. Apart from keeping themselves fit, the students also awaits possible advertisement for  the announced Govt job in local newspaper.

Being head of the institution, the principal of Nampong Govt Higher Secondary School is also encouraging all the local boys and girls to get themselves ready for the interview for the proposed massive recruitment rally.

All these happening after listening to the historical announcement of job package by the Home Minister. Now it is up to the state Govt to give advertisement for the posts announced earlier.

 

Itanagar ready for Menwhopause performance

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: The state capital Itanagar is gearing up to witness performance by Menwhopause band on 1st October. The bandh members will reach reach Itanagar tomorrow for their October 1st concert which will be held at Hotel Donyi Polo Ashoka starting from evening 6 PM. The programme is being organized by Phoenix Rising management group.

Menwhopause is a five-member rock band based in New Delhi. The band was formed in 2001 by guitarist Anup Kutty with an original line up of singer cum songwriter Sarabjit Chadha and acoustic guitarist Inder Pal Singh (IP). The other bandh members include Randeep Singh on bass and Frenchman Paul Schneiter on drum. In a country where popular music is dominated with commercial Bollywood music and the live rock music scene is generally full of cover bands, menwhopause stuck to playing original compositions and were one of the first bands in India to distribute their music for free over the internet. They have performed all over India and world and have huge fan following cutting across the country.

1.Sarabjit Singh (vocals, harmonica)

Born October 1978 to a Delhi-based originally-Pakistani Punjabi Sikh family, started singing for school choir at eight, drew early influences from Gurudutt and Osho, dropped out of engineering college to start business in computers which he gave up eventually to pursue a career in advertising, auditioned for a bunch of guys who he met over the net, ended up breaking the band and then reforming it with a new line-up, think and write for menwhopause.

Currently working with Leo Burnett as a Senior Copywriter.

2. IP Singh (acoustic guitar and a variety of instruments)

Born September 1977 to a Delhi-based Sikh family, studied at a Hindi-medium government school, figured education wouldn't take him where he wanted to be and burnt any living proof of the same, started playing guitars at local pujas and ceremonies, joined a puppetry group, fell in love with both forms of art, spent time perfecting them, met two random guys through a friend who fell in love with "the eccentric sardar who listens to black metal and plays the guitar", joined menwhopause.

Is the Co-producer of the country's most popular political satire puppet show on NDTV called Gustakhi Maaf and The Great Indian Tamasha.

3. Anup Kutty (electric guitar, acoustic guitar, harmonica, vocals)

Born April 1979 to a Delhi-based Malayalee family, was the youngest keyboard player for the convent choir till he figured that he was too poor to own one, quit playing the keys to pick up the guitar "cos it was a cheaper option", played in a gospel band till a college

4. Randeep Singh (bass, djembe, vocals)

Born June 1977 to a Delhi-based Punjabi Sikh family, he started playing the tabla at 8, quit because his family couldn't afford it, when they finally could, he picked up the guitar because he "could relate to it better", Listened to grunge, alternative, metal to "release angst", went to a gig to watch some guys play original music on beaten-up acoustic guitars, sent fan mail to the guys the next day, ended up as bass guitarist for menwhopause.

5. Paul Schneiter (drums)

The newest addition to the band, in place of drummer Rahul Chatterjee who's on a hiatus, Paul is a seasoned musician. From France, he is also a recognized sound engineer.

 

Mra clarifies yet again

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: The woman with whom Tapi Mra was “caught red-handed” by the volunteers of Chimpu Village Youth Association (CVYA) on September 22 evening in between Chimpu and Hollongi was his wife.

Talking to this newspaper, both Mr and Mrs Mra said that they were feeling very sorry for the inhumane treatment meted out to them on that very fateful day.

“We were very sorry for the manner in which we were treated. We were even not given any chance to prove our relationship”, they said.

The couple was also very much hurt by the comments passed on them by the volunteers.

According to Mrs. Mra (Gollo Jona), the incident happened when they stopped for a while near the dumping point to attend to nature’s call while they were returning from Hollongi.

The couple appealed to the people of the state not to misunderstand them based on the false statement of the association.

Mra also threatened to seek Women Commission’s help, if necessary.

 

Contribution of Different Sectors in the Development of Arunachal

Itanagar, Sep 29:  The Commerce Department of Don Bosco College, Itanagar held its 3rd departmental seminar on the theme “Contribution of  different sectors in Arunachal Pradesh towards its economic growth”.

The seminar had its resource persons in Dr. Tashi Kaye, Asst. Professor, RGU and Dr. S.K. Sharma, HOD, Commerce Dept. DNGC.

Various researched papers were presented by the students. In his speech, Dr. Tashi Kaye threw a light on the objectives and methodology of academic seminars. Addressing the students, Dr. S.K. Sharma stated  that real education comes only when it lead a person to help the needy. A Selfish person cannot be called an educated person. He reiterated the need of reading books on various topics for reflection and synthesis the knowledge.  He also said that every person has divinity inside him which is blocked by selfishness and only education can lead to divinity.  The seminar elaborated on the various themes as Study on Central Govt. grants & State govt. revenue and its expenditure; Contribution of State Transport Services towards State Domestic Product; Role of  Horticulture and Poultry farm in economic Development of Arunachal Pradesh.

 

Compensation demanded from bandh sponsors

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Arunachal Vigilance Forum (AVF) has demanded compensation from Arunachal Volunteers Youth Federation (AVYF) for the losses incurred by government, general public, business establishments, traders and shopkeepers etc. during the bandh call given by the Federation on September 23 last.

AVF in its letter to Chief Secretary said that, AVYF has humiliated the people of the state, particularly capital complex, by apologizing for the bandh call given by it in the very next day, which has proved itself as an irresponsible organization.

The public had extended support to the organization for the noble cause of fighting against corruption. But their retreat the very next day is nothing less than humiliation, it said, and urged the authority to initiate necessary action against those bandh organisers with vested interest.

AVF also urged Minister Pema Khandu to initiate appropriate action against the Forum for lodging false FIR against him with an intention to defame him.

 

GHSS Ziro to represent L/ Subansiri in state level Subroto Cup

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Government Hr Sec. School, Ziro beat  Govt.Hr.Sec.School, Hija 4-2 to become champion of  the District Level U-17 Subroto Cup Football Tournament under Lower Subansiri District which was held from September 25 to 28 last at Hija Ground, Old Ziro.

The winner will represent the district at state level tournament to be held in December,’2011.

The scorer of the winning team were Millo Alley, Hage Tamo, Rubu Rabin, and Koj Gambo. Chiging Pulo and Mobia Sira scored a goal each for the runner-up team.

Prizes to the winner and runners up teams were distributed by  Bamin Tani, Principal GHSS, Ziro and  Subu Tara, Vice Principal, GHSS, Hija respectively.

Kamin Toka, DSO (Sports) and Kalung Tani, Secretary (DAO) were also present to witness the final match.

 

Arunachal win 18 medals in All India Inter Regional Karate Competition

ITANAGAR, Sep 29: Arunachal Pradesh won 18 medals, including 7 gold, 9 silver and 2 bronze, in the just concluded All India Inter Regional Karate Competition at Madhya Pradesh.

The gold medallist were Runa Dada (Senior Boys below 75 kg), Tage Saa (Junior Boys below 75 kg), Dongro Dodum (Junior boys below 68 kg), Janam Dodum (Junior Boys below 63 kg), Rei Yadi (Senior Women below 62 kg), Samuel Dolo (Sub-junior Boys under 14 years). All the players won their medals in Individual Kumite excepting Samuel Dolo, who bagged two gold medals in Individual Kumite and Kata.

P. Nobin Jamoh bagged 3 silver medals--one each in Individual Kumite in Senior Men’s above 75 kg., Team Kumite and Team Kata.

While Runa Dada and Nikam Sono Liyang won a silver each in Team Kumite, Vijay Techi, Kofa Raje, Takiang Bagang and Goda Asha bagged a silver each  in Individual Kumite in their respective weight categories.

Nikam Sono Liyang also won two bronze.

Sensei S Deven Sarma, black belt 5th dan, was the coach of the team.

The competition was hosted by Sports Authority of India Sports Training Center, Jabalpur under the aegis of SAI central regional centre, Bhopal.

 

Orgs mourn demise of young leader

ITANAGAR, Sep 29:  The Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe Students' Union has mourned the sudden demise of late Kobu Mengnia, the former President of All Upper Suhansiri District Students' Union who died on 27th of this month. Recalling his contribution for the benefit of the students of Upper Subansiri District particularly and state as a whole union prayed for eternal peace of the departed soul. He is survived by his wife and one year old son.

Arunachal Law Students Union (ALSU), All Kurung Kumey District Students Union and Arunachal Pradesh Colleges Forum have also deeply mourned the untimely demise of youth leader late Kobu Mengnia. “He contributed immensely to various student movements in Arunachal and with his death we have lost a youth leader,” they added. Meanwhile ALSU expressed concern over killing and raping of girl at Vijaynagar and killing of a local youth at Namsai area. Union drew the attention of government towards deteriorating law and order problem in capital.

All Tagin Students residing in Shillong have  expressed shock at the untimely and sudden demise of  Kobu Mengnia,the former President All Upper Subansiri District Student’s Union’. He had done his BA.LLB from Shillong Law College.

He has been an energetic leader as well kind hearted human being, it said.  

Galo Students Union, Upper Subansiri, Changs Trust and BSG Foundation have also condoled the death of the young leader.

 

Bank need to improve its services

I, would like to bring to the notice of the concerned authority at State Bank of India (SBI), Yingkiong Branch, regarding mental and physical harassment meted out to the people as a result of their delay tactics, improper banking management and unsatisfactory service delivery.

It has been more than a year that State Bank of India, Yingkiong Branch fails to render their services up to the expectation of the people. It may be mentioned here that I, myself had been issued a Saving Pass Book on 16th December-2010 last. But despite my repeated pleads both verbally and written, my signature has not been scanned till-date. As a result, I can’t access Bank transaction in other Branches. Moreover, I can’t authorize any of my friends/colleagues to draw little amount of my monthly salary through cheque when they visit Yingkiong quite often. I am serving my job at remotest parts of the State where there is no Banking service at all. It is not possible for me to go down to Yingkiong every month. Bank authority does not pay any heed to our requests/petitions.  We know that scanning of signature and up-to-date of Pass Book/Account is one of the most important parts of their management. If scanner is already damaged then why the Bank can’t purchase new one?

There are many others customers who are facing the same problems like me. It is a kind of tactics or it seems that the Bank authority is intentionally giving harassment to the people. They should not keep on harassing the people in this manner.

I, therefore request the concerned authority of the State Bank of India to look into this matter and initiate a favorable action, please.

Need for a Commerce stream

Govt. High. Secondary School (GHSS), Daporijo need to establish a Commerce stream so that students, who are willing to take up the course is not deprived. Since there is no Commerce stream, students are compelled to take   up arts or science streams. Most students can’t afford to move out of their home town so it is necessary that Commerce stream is made available soon.

I also appeal to the student’s organizations

of Daporijo to look into the matter seriously.

Is this development?

This is in response to a mail ‘Stop Baseless Allegations’ by my fellow citizens of Sagalee, Nabam Palla and Nabam Nania, Organizing Secy and Mahila Organizing Secy of Block Congress Seva Dal (BCSD). Nabam Tuki has been holding a ministerial berth since last 15 years but the level of development the people should have seen is very low.

The Doimukh to Sagalee road is the same as it was at the time of our beloved former minister Late Techi Takar.  

The citizens of the area experiences the treacherous two and half hour journey to Sagalee.  Is this development?

The PMGSY Sagalee to Karoi road mentioned was initially taken up by PWD but it remained unsuccessful so later on it was given to RWD to make it a success. The steel bridge and the guest house at Sagalee are under construction so how can they claim it as an achievement.

Where was he all these fifteen years?

The fact is that now he has realized that there are other leaders in his constituency and is scared of his post.

The electrification of villages under RGGVRY is a central scheme and is not a gift by our minister as mentioned.

The 40Km Doimukh to Toru and 50Km Sagalee to Sakiang roads is a failure too as experienced by each and every one of us.

The Lapatap Pech Steel Bridge is not the contribution of Tuki. It was a gift to the public under CRF by Tad Tana when he was ZPM of Toru. The construction of the Trans highway all over Arunachal was the gift of our Late CM Dorjee Khandu. Moreover the trans – highway information given as Nichipu to Potin via Pakke Kessang is wrong.  Actually the projected highway is from Hoj to Pakke Kessang via Meeb Soro which is yet to be started.

So I would like to request you to visit the sites first and collect the reality before writing anything in support of any one or criticizing them.

I would like to become a bit personal as the personal residence of Tuki at Sagalee town is the best example of his best services to people as no one in the whole constituency has a house similar to his. If he can build such a good and beautiful bungalow then why can’t he at least give us a good Doimukh – Sagalee road?

It is simply to express my anguish over the way in which our learned readers are using Readers' Forum as a medium of useless arguments and countering the comments of others.

It seems like they don't even know that it is a mass media not a not a means for settling their personal scores.

Besides, I am also very much dissatisfied with the way in which your esteemed daily is entertaining such kinds of letters which actually carries nothing important in it to be published.

I may be wrong but the letters to the Editor ought to contain something which is of common public interest. Neither they are meant to ventilate personal grievances nor to advertise something.

Therefore, it would be appreciated if you no more entertain such unimportant letters. It is also expected of reputed newspapers that it would not entertain anonymous letters as well. These would raise the standard of your esteemed daily to a more respectable height.

A bold and responsible move

Dear Editor,

Home Minister Takar Marde’s dismissal of proposal to open offices at Tirap and Changlang districts by Neiphio Rio and his Naga People’s Front led government was indeed a bold and responsible move to bring normalcy in this part of the state. His dismissal, that too at the floor of the Legislative Assembly, was a clear message to the Nagas those who are responsible for tension and de-stability in the Tirap and Changlang districts. By Chief Minister Rio’s move to expand its base in these two districts, it is clear that, now they are officially trying to set up their permanent base after their long unofficial presence in the form of insurgency which infected our once peaceful state. Home Minister Marde’s commitment which he showed during his July last visit to these districts has surely come as a big hope.

My admiration and opinion about HM may hurt some fellow people like Tapak Uli whose brothers were manhandled by IRBN personnel recently. But at the meantime, I’m also sure that some others will also share same opinion. Of course departmental action has to be initiated to garner people’s trust on police forces if those personnel are found wrong. But here, I must also admit and convince fellow folks that we civilians too need some introspections at times before coming into any conclusion. I don’t think non carriage of helmet is the only silly reason for beating up the youths! But, if it was surely HM will have to think again on the same word which he has warned during his last interaction with the Forces to live within the law else face action. As a Home Minister his duty is to maintain peace and harmony in the state. And his duty is also to safeguard the interest of the forces who are deployed to maintain that environment.

Coming to my point, HM Marde’s move should be supported wholeheartedly from across the state, especially by the people of that Tirap and Changlang. It is easy to criticize government for any inaction, but hard to even complaint against the insurgents. So, fellow peoples of these two districts along with the servicemen from other districts are silently bearing the atrocities of insurgents from so long.  How far this effort of HM Marde led by Gamlin government will take this process to? Will this effort bring normalcy back and Arunachal get back its tag of most peaceful state of the country? Only time will tell us! DIPRO Denhang Bonsai’s news report about hope and aspiration of the people of these affected and infected two districts after HM’s assurance full July last visit was a heart touching reading. Naga brothers residing in these two districts of Arunachal Pradesh must rethink on their support to greater Nagalim, because they will be surely happier and contended here than in other side of dreamful unrealistic greater Nagalim which will only benefit 2nd or 3rd country. Arunachal is a land of numerous tribes living harmoniously where every tribe have same space. We must realize sooner or later that insurgency will not lead to any good ending. Rather it will make our life more miserable. So, choice is up to us.

Lastly; Naga brothers and Rio led government, I think greater Nagalim shouldn’t come at the cost of peace and harmony of our Arunachal Pradesh.

Dams will change the environmental face of NE

Dear Editor,

Power projects will not change economic face of the north-east. They will change the environmental face of the north-east, in a very gruesomely destructive way. The biosphere of Arunachal and Assam will be destroyed forever because of corporate greed of India, and money and political greed of north-east ministers. Recent earthquake in Sikkim shows how dams have accelerated, fastened and brought in untold suffering and destruction. In one dam project, thousands of labourers and some engineers have been killed by the collapse of the dam. Had the Indian news media reported it properly, the world would know how Congress politics and company greed has destroyed the ecology of north-east region.

We the common people should decide what type of development we want. If solar energy can bring about so much of development in many villages and towns in different parts of the world, why can’t experts be brought to set up solar panels to generate power? If wind energy has brought in so much prosperity to small European countries like Netherlands or Holland and Denmark, why can’t we bring in experts from those countries to help the respective state governments set up wind-mills for power generation? The reason is lack of good-will and true concern for the people of the north-east. Even if hundreds of villages are washed away, and lakhs of people die, Sonia and party will only bow to corporate interest. The destruction of the dams in Sikkim during the recent earthquake has failed to melt the hearts of the rich and mighty. Last year it was Tehri dam in Uttarakhand. This year its Sikkim. Next will be the twin states of Assam and Arunachal Pradesh. The cries of the poor do not reach the commercial mass media based in metro cities nor does it affect the so called ‘leaders’. These so called political leaders either live in fool’s paradise and look like Alice in wonderland.

Dams are and will always be the catalysts of destruction whenever earthquakes strike. It is greed which makes the power lobby attack the natural flow of rivers and disturb their route. If we the common people believe that such man-made activities on a river will be tolerated by the river waters, it will be our foolishness.

Climate change and civil conflict

 

A study has shown that cyclical climate events like the El Niño, which lead to a drop in food production, increase the likelihood of conflict in developing countries. Cyclical climatic changes double the risk of civil wars, with analysis showing that 50 of 250 conflicts between 1950 and 2004 were triggered by the El Niño cycle, according to scientists.

Researchers connected the climate phenomenon known as El Niño, which brings hot and dry conditions to tropical nations and cuts food production, to outbreaks of violence in countries from southern Sudan to Indonesia and Peru.

The research, published in Nature, uses a statistical approach to show that the risk of a conflict doubles from 3% to 6% in El Niño cycles (which occur every three to seven years) in affected nations. Unaffected nations showed no such pattern.

The analysis shows that a fifth of the 250 civil conflicts between 1950 and 2004 were precipitated by hotter, drier weather. Differing levels of poverty, democracy and population did not alter the strength of the climate-conflict link, nor did the impact of the end of colonial rule in many countries by 1975.
